No More Horizon: Zero Dawn DLC After Frozen Wilds

It has been confirmed by Guerrilla Games that the upcoming Horizon: Zero Dawn expansion, The Frozen Wilds, will be the game’s sole DLC. The enormously popular open-world videogame now has over a million players.

Players have been waiting in the days before the release of The Frozen Wilds, a DLC pack for Horizon: Zero Dawn, was unveiled at the 2017 Electronic Entertainment Expo. However, although the expansion is shaping up to be an outstanding addition to the enormously popular open world game, fans may be a little upset to learn that this will be the game’s sole DLC. According to a fan tweet in which the question was posed if The Frozen Wilds would be the first of a series of DLC packs for Horizon: Zero Dawn, Guerrilla Games has confirmed that the next expansion pack will be the sole DLC for the game. Even while this revelation may come as a surprise to many fans, the recent announcement of the upcoming Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition provided evidence that the team has intended for The Frozen Wilds to be the game’s sole expansion pack for quite some time. Guerrilla Games is almost certainly busy finishing up work on The Frozen Wilds and any related Horizon:

Zero Dawn material that is slated to be released in the next few weeks, but the studio has already begun work on its next project, which will very certainly be a sequel to Horizon: Zero Dawn. Sony has not yet confirmed whether or not there would be a sequel to the first game, but given how insanely successful the first game was for the corporation, it is almost a certainty that a green-light will be nothing more than a formality for Sony’s massively popular new series. However, while the news that The Frozen Wilds will be the only DLC pack for Horizon: Zero Dawn will be disappointing for fans, it appears that Guerrilla Games is wrapping up support for its title in the most positive way possible, as the expansion is shaping up to be a substantial addition to the base game. It’s safe to say that, if this is Aloy’s final expedition for the time being, the red-headed warrior will go out rather than go in with a whimper. It’s possible that many Horizon Forbidden West players are now nearing or have completed their playthroughs–or at the very least, their first playthrough–but it appears like there will be additional material in the form of DLC that will be published at a later date. In a recent age rating guide for the game released by the VSC Rating Board, a mention of this prospective DLC was made. However, no DLC or anything else of that type has been officially revealed as of yet.

There is a mention of DLC for Horizon Forbidden West in the video embedded below. Player can “connect to an online marketplace,” where they can “buy DLC expansions,” the VSC Rating Board says in a video about the game’s age rating and why it was given that rating.There is no mention of Horizon Forbidden West DLC anywhere in the review notes, and Sony has made no announcements about any packs, but it looks like the kind guys at the VSC Rating Board have let slip that DLC is on the road. In a new video broadcast today on Twitter, the VSC explains Horizon Forbidden West’s rating, and around the 1:19 mark, they plainly state that “the game provides gamers with the possibility to connect to an online store front where they may purchase additional DLC expansions.” At the time of writing, Horizon Forbidden West does not have a DLC shop. A closer look at the back of the physical copy of the game reveals that the “In-game purchases” indicator from the PEGI ratings system has been tampered with. Because everyone receives digital tickets rather than a physical boxed game, this would not have been noticed in any reviews. This seems like a no-brainer; Horizon Forbidden West is a large open world game that could easily have DLC put in, similar to what Guerrilla did when The Frozen Wilds were introduced to Horizon Zero Dawn. One word of warning, however: a quick look at the back of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart reveals that the game is marked as having an online store, despite the fact that it does not.

It’s possible that Sony is stating that there will be an online shop in the event that they decide to provide DLC later on. According to new data, Horizon Forbidden West outperformed every other game in the digital download rankings last week, accounting for 48 percent of total sales, which is more than double the amount earned by Horizon Zero Dawn during the same period.-seven percent of the sales were for the PlayStation 5 version of the game. Horizon Forbidden West is an action role-playing game developed by Guerilla Games and released in 2017. It is the sequel to the 2017 game Horizon Zero Dawn and was released in 2018. The new game features a more adult Aloy, who must now fight new and terrifying adversaries in order to preserve the planet. The answer is a tentative yes. There has been no official word on whether Forbidden West will receive DLC.The Frozen Wilds DLC pack for Horizon Zero Dawn, on the other hand, was a huge hit. Because of the popularity of the expansion, there is a strong likelihood that Forbidden West may receive downloadable content in the future. If there is one in the works, we will most likely not see it until the end of this year or the beginning of 2023. It is critical to remember that at this point in time, everything is just supposition. Horizon Forbidden West is scheduled to be released on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 systems on February 18th, 2022.
