Horizon Zero Dawn for PC is a great idea that needs some work

Interactive Entertainment. It was created by Guerrilla Games and published by the company. The story revolves around Aloy, a teenage hunter living in a world overrun by robots who embarks on a journey to discover her family’s history and identity. Wikipedia

Are there any plans to bring Horizon Forbidden West to Windows 10 PCs? That’s a significant question right now in terms of open-world adventure game fans who like to launch their games through Steam on a dependable Windows PC. It looks like Aloy’s adventures on PlayStation platforms are about to resume with the forthcoming release of Horizon Forbidden West—otherwise known as the item that will consume a significant portion of our weekend. This weekend promises to be a spectacular one as the game appears to be just as captivating and impressive as the last. A number of critics have praised the film and called it “a fitting successor” to the film “The Last of Us.”

How Is Horizon ZERO Dawn?

In the foreseeable future, Horizon Forbidden West will not be released on PC. Sony’s PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 gaming systems will be the only ones to benefit from this week’s release of the game. That being said, it is a reasonable question to pose. Before, we could just say no and move on, but in recent years, games that were previously only available on the PlayStation 3 have begun to appear on the PC. Horizon Zero Dawn made the transition from console to PC in 2020 (more than three years after its original PS4 release), and more recently, games such as Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, Bend Studio’s Days Gone, and Sony Santa Monica’s God of War have made the same transition.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection has also been announced for release on the PC, as Sony continues its steady transition of its popular series to the Microsoft operating system. However, there is typically a significant amount of time between the console and computer launches. Currently, though, Horizon Forbidden West is only playable if you own a PlayStation, and there are no plans to convert the game to the PC in the near future, according to the developers. In this case, though, the essential word is “instant.” The fact that the original game is now available on PC suggests that the sequel will be released on the same platform at some point-just don’t expect it to happen for quite some time, if at all. If we learn anything positive about a Horizon Forbidden West PC release date in the near future, we’ll be sure to pass it along to you. A port of this nature may not be available until as late as 2025, at the very earliest, if at all. The original Horizon Zero Dawn game is still accessible on Steam for computer-based users to discover if they are anxious to play as Aloy on a computer. In addition, if you haven’t already done so, you absolutely should.

How Is Horizon ZERO Dawn?

Horizon Zero Dawn was released on PC just a few days ago, which would have sounded like a far-fetched statement to make at this point in the year. This is one of the most critically acclaimed games available on the PlayStation 4, and Sony is not known for distributing its exclusive titles elsewhere—in fact, exclusive titles are one of the primary reasons to purchase a PlayStation 4 console in the first place. In the case of Horizon Zero Dawn, on the other hand, the PC release is a no-brainer. Because the PS4 is being phased out, the release of Ghost of Tsushima, which came out last month, marked the penultimate major first-party title from Sony before the PS5’s release later this year. One of the most anticipated titles for the PlayStation 5 is the Horizon Forbidden West sequel, which will be released next year. Consequently, re-releasing Zero Dawn and its Frozen Wilds expansion on PC is wise marketing for the PlayStation 5. In making the game available to a new audience at this stage in the PS4’s life cycle, Sony gains nothing, and it’s possible that some PC gamers will become sufficiently captivated to take an interest in the PS5 sequel when they otherwise would not have.

(It seems unlikely that Forbidden West will be released on the PC for several years, if at all.) The reasoning is sound, but it will only be effective if PC players have a positive experience with Horizon Zero Dawn. While the general quality of the game is undeniable, it looks like the porting job did not receive the same amount of care and attention to detail as the original. Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the most technically ambitious games available for the PlayStation 4, yet it was developed for technology that was far less powerful than the majority of gaming PCs available today, and it appears that many players are not getting the experience they anticipate. On my PC (GTX 1080, i5 6600K, 16GB of RAM), I’ve been playing Horizon Zero Dawn with the day-one patch and the most recent Nvidia driver installed, and the results have been satisfactory, if not amazing. I’ve been able to get it to run at 1440p on high settings while maintaining a frame rate of roughly 50 frames per second, which appears smooth enough on a G-Sync display. Some of the time, while entering a new area, the game appears to be halting and stuttering, which I initially assumed might have something to do with the game loading from a spinning hard disk.

However, that was also how it ran on the PS4, and I don’t recall any stuttering on that platform. It is true that the port has options to assist in stabilizing performance, but in my experience, they haven’t worked very well. Locking the frame rate to a supposedly stable 30 frames per second does little to alleviate the stuttering. If anything, it only serves to slow you down further, resulting in even lower frame rates when they do occur. Like when you play a game in the dynamic resolution mode, which is supposed to keep your frame rate the same but doesn’t actually do anything to do that.
